Hola Parents,
I apologize for how long it has taken me to post updates! Here is what we've been up to since October.
During the month of October we really focused on practicing numbers and incorporating math into the classroom. We even added in a fun, traditional Spanish song with a Halloween-y theme. Students were able to work in teams to put the song lyrics back in order.
Los esqueletos letra- The Little Skeletons Lyrics
Cuando el reloj marca la una / When the clock strikes one,
los esqueletos salen de la tumba. / the skeletons come out of the grave.
Cuando el reloj marca las dos / When the clock strikes two,
los esqueletos toman el Sol. / the skeletons sunbathe.
Cuando el reloj marca las tres / When the clock strikes three,
los esqueletos toman el té. / The skeletons drink tea.
Cuando el reloj marca las cuatro / When the clock strikes four,
los esqueletos se abrochan los zapatos. / the skeletons tie their shoes.
Cuando el reloj marca las cinco / When the clock strikes five,
los esqueletos pegan un brinco. / the skeletons jump.
Cuando el reloj marca las seis / When the clock strikes six,
los esqueletos se ponen el jersey. / the skeletons put on their sweaters.
Cuando el reloj marca las siete / When the clock strikes seven,
los esqueletos se pegan un cachete. / the skeletons slap their cheeks.
Cuando el reloj marca las ocho / When the clock strikes eight,
los esqueletos se comen un bizcocho. / the skeletons eat cake.
Cuando el reloj marca las nueve / When the clock strikes nine,
los esqueletos ya no se mueven. / the skeletons don’t move any more.
Cuando el reloj marca las diez / When the clock strikes ten,
los esqueletos ya no se ven. / The skeletons are no longer seen.
We also read El monstruo de Ricardo and drew our own crazy monsters.

As we moved into November, our attention turned to learning about a very special Mexican holiday: Day of the Dead (Día de los muertos). We read Calavera Abecedario (Skeleton Alphabet) to review the alphabet and then students made their own traditional skeletons.
We also watched My Grandmother is no longer Here, and talked about the beliefs surrounding the Day of the Dead ceremony. (click on the link to watch the video.)
Later in November, we practiced saying "doy gracias por..." ("I give thanks for..."), and talked about what we were thankful for. Students listened to the song "Doy gracias" and filled in the missing lyrics on a worksheet.

After Fall break, students began learning the days of the week. Ask your student to show you the hand signs that go with each day of the week, and maybe invite them to sing the song!
Los siete días de la semana- the seven days of the week
lunes - Monday
martes - Tuesday
miércoles- Wednesday
jueves - Thursday
viernes - Friday
sábado - Saturday
domingo - Sunday
Students compared the U.S. calendar to the Spanish-speaking calendar and noticed that the days of the week are not capitalized in Spanish, and that the first day of the week is Monday.

Before winter vacation we began learning vocabulary to talk about emotions. We will continue with this vocabulary, adding onto it, in January.
está contento - is happy
está triste - is sad
llora- cries
