Hola Parents!
For the beginning of the trimester we have primarily focused on storytelling, incorporating the most frequently used verbs in the Spanish language: ser (to be), tener (to have) and querer (to want). When storytelling, I speak in past tense while I ask that my student actors speak in present tense. This way students here both present and past in context and start to develop an ear for both! It would be a good idea to ask your students to start their own Spanish/English dictionary in order to keep track of new vocabulary. Below is the main vocabulary we have been working with:
había- there was/there is hay- there is/there are
un chico- a boy
una chica- a girl
estaba en ____ - was in ____ está en ____ - is in _____
estaba contento- was happy está contento - is happy
tenía- had tengo- I have; tienes- you have
quería- wanted quiero- I want; quieres- you want
era- was es- is
un gato- a cat
Last week I assigned all students a Realidades text book, which they keep in their lockers or at home and are asked to bring it with them each day. Each day we begin class with a bell ringer, or what I call "Para Empezar". It is a different theme depending on the day:
leer lunes y jueves (read Monday and Thursday)
música martes (music Tuesday)
miáucoles (a play on miércoles, or cat Wednesday)
baile viernes (dance Friday)
Here's a taste from last Wednesday:
